KUCHING: Chong Kia Hoi Realty Sdn Bhd`s (CKH Realty) latest project MetroCity is set to be a landmark development here.

Company director, Chong Kia Hoi, said MetroCity- poised to be the most complete and integrated township in the state-would come with the best infrastructure, facilities and amenities.

During the MetroCity purchaser appreciation dinner on Thursday, he said negotiations were on-going with two international hypermarket chain operators to lease MetroCity`s commercial mall in Matang.

"I can confirm that their responses have been very positive and we are confident of concluding the deal in the very near future," he said.

Chong added that two international fast food chains also showed keen interest in operating MetroCity`s F&B Drive-Thru restaurant.

He pointed out that MetroCity had other catalysts such as a bus terminal, private medical centre and college.

"Construction of the bus terminal will commence together with the shops and we aim to have it operational within 30 months."

He revealed that negotiations with interested parties for the medical centre and college had started.

MetroCity would also see established telecommunication infrastructure as the corporation had negotiated with Telekom Malaysia to bring in the latest high-speed network system, he said.

He added that at least RM11.5 million would be required to implement a complete network system with fixed telephone, fax and high-speed broadband Internet services to MetroCity shops and homes.

"We want MetroCity to be a vibrant township with excellent telecommunication infrastructure and you can rest assured that reception is not an issue in the elevator."

Since the official sales launch last week, Chong said over 200 units of shops-over 63 per cent of the total 314 units-had been sold out.

"With over 30 years of experience in the industry, I can confidently state that what we have achieved together in this short time is unprecedented in the history of Kuching`s property market."

He said substantial investment would be made for an over 1km tree-lined boulevard to serve the commercial precinct of MetroCity.

The residential precinct will have interconnected open spaces and green ways like playing fields, linear parks and courtyards.

"We have received very strong demand for MetroCity homes and hope to launch the first phase of our 1,000 plus units of houses soon," said Chong.

"All the MetroCity shops sold to date are to genuine purchasers. Not a single unit has been retained by us or sold to contractors by way of contra."
